Frequently Asked Questions

Bitcast is a decentralized protocol that rewards YouTube creators for producing content that matches brand briefs. Below are answers to the most common questions about how earning works, how scoring and rewards operate, and how to get started.

Getting Started

What is Bitcast?

Bitcast is a decentralized creator marketing protocol built on Bittensor (subnet 93). Brands post content briefs, YouTube creators produce videos that match those briefs, and an automated validator network verifies content and distributes rewards in TAO based on real engagement metrics. The protocol is open-source — anyone can participate.

How do I earn on Bitcast?

There are two ways to participate:

  • **Self-hosted** — You run the Bitcast miner software yourself on your own Linux server. This is fully open to anyone who meets the channel requirements and wants to operate independently. Setup involves cloning the repo, configuring Google OAuth credentials, and registering a Bittensor wallet.
  • **No-code** — Bitcast hosts and operates everything on your behalf. You just connect your YouTube channel through the Creator Portal and start earning. This path requires an application and review process.

What do I need to get started?

Your YouTube channel must be enrolled in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). YPP membership is required because the scoring system relies on Premium Revenue data, which is only available to YPP channels. It also ensures your channel meets the baseline for quality and engagement that Bitcast depends on.

How do I apply for the no-code path?

Click "Sign in with Google" on the login page using the Google account tied to your YouTube channel. Fill out the registration form and your application will enter the review queue.

How long does approval take?

Most applications are reviewed within a few business days. You'll see your status on the pending page and receive an email once a decision is made.

Briefs & Content

What is a brief?

A brief is a brand's content request. It specifies the topic, format requirements, date window, and may include a brand overview PDF with additional guidance. Live briefs are listed on the Briefs page with countdown timers to their deadlines.

What video formats can briefs specify?

Briefs can require different formats:

  • **Dedicated** — The sponsor's topic is the main focus of the video (80%+ of content). Receives the full reward. Each channel can earn on up to 2 dedicated videos per brief.
  • **Ad-Read** — A short, distinct sponsor message segment within the video. Receives 20% of the dedicated reward. Each channel can earn on up to 5 ad-read videos per brief.
  • **Integration** — The sponsor's content is woven naturally into the video. Receives 20% of the dedicated reward. Video limits are configured per brief.
  • **Product Placement** — The sponsor's product is mentioned naturally during the video (e.g., verbal mentions). Receives ½ of the integration/ad-read rate.

**Note:** Normally a video can only earn on one brief at a time. Product Placement is the only exception — it can be earned *in addition to* a dedicated, ad-read, or integration brief on the same video, so a qualifying video can earn twice.

How does matching work — do I submit videos?

No manual submission needed. Once your YouTube channel is connected, the validator network automatically discovers your public uploads and evaluates them against active briefs. As long as you post during a brief's content window, your videos will be picked up.

Can I check my script before recording?

Yes. The Script Checker lets you paste a video description, transcript, and target brief — you'll get an automated PASS/FAIL result with feedback before you invest time in production.

What are the video requirements?

For a video to be eligible for scoring it must:

  • Be publicly listed (not unlisted or private)
  • Be published during the brief's active date window
  • Use auto-generated captions only (manually uploaded subtitles disqualify the video)
  • Match the brief's content requirements (topic and format)

Scoring & Rewards

How are videos scored?

Rewards are based on YouTube Premium Revenue — the revenue your videos generate through YouTube Premium subscribers. The more premium revenue your eligible videos generate, the more you earn.

When do I start earning from a video?

There is a 3-day delay before rewards begin — this aligns with YouTube's engagement verification period. Any video published while the brief is live will earn rewards for 14 days from its publish date, even if the brief ends during that period.

How does Bitcast prevent fake engagement?

Bitcast compares each video's performance against your channel's typical engagement from the previous month. If a video shows abnormally high traffic that's out of line with your usual numbers, the excess gets capped. This prevents anyone from buying fake views to inflate their rewards.

The BITCAST Token

What is the BITCAST token?

BITCAST is the native token of subnet 93 on Bittensor. It's the token you receive as rewards for participating in briefs. It is a Bittensor subnet token (dynamic TAO).

Where can I sell or swap BITCAST?

You can swap (unstake) BITCAST for TAO directly within the Talisman or Taostats wallets, then sell TAO on any major exchange. BITCAST is also available on Base via Aerodrome — you can swap directly at aerodrome.finance.

How do I check my BITCAST balance?

You can view your BITCAST balance through your Bittensor wallet (Talisman or Taostats) or by checking your coldkey address on taostats.io. Your balance updates automatically after rewards are distributed.

Do I earn yield on my BITCAST?

Yes. Everyone holding BITCAST earns staking yield automatically — typically between 40% and 70% APY. You don't need to do anything extra; rewards accrue to your wallet. To see current yields visit taostats.io/yield?subnet=93.

Support & Troubleshooting

How do I contact support?

Reach out via the Bitcast Discord (linked in the footer) or email [email protected]. Include your Bitcast ID or the email associated with your account so we can help you quickly.

I found a bug — where do I report it?

Bug reports go in the #portal-feedback channel on the Bitcast Discord. Screenshots and the URL where the issue occurred help us fix things faster.

My video isn't showing up — what should I check?

A few common things to verify:

  • The video is public (not unlisted or private)
  • It was published within the brief's active date window
  • It uses auto-generated captions (not manual subtitles)
  • The brief is still live
  • Allow up to 4-5 hours for the next validator cycle to process new uploads
